The Red Cross Socialization Club
The Red Cross Socialization Club was established in November 2023 to support internationals and international students in Vaasa as they navigate the challenges of living and studying in a new environment. Guided by the seven fundamental principles of the Red Cross and grounded in the values of inclusivity and safe space, the initiative fosters a welcoming and supportive community for its members.
Since its inception, members have gathered twice a month at Sandögatan 8 to engage in a variety of indoor and outdoor activities, including movie screenings, storytelling sessions, cultural exchanges, sports, and potluck events. These regular interactions have cultivated a strong sense of belonging, with many participants finding a genuine “home away from home.”
The club plays a vital role in addressing common challenges such as loneliness, social isolation, homesickness, cultural adjustment, language barriers, and limited social networks. Many members also face difficulties adapting to the climate, navigating local systems and services, and integrating into the wider community. By creating opportunities for meaningful connection, shared experiences, mutual support, and volunteering, the club has become a trusted space for comfort and community.
Today, the Red Cross Socialization Club has grown to over 250 members. Many are actively engaged in volunteering with the Red Cross and contribute to various initiatives across Vaasa, further strengthening community ties and promoting social cohesion.
